About this place
The eel is plump and tender, and the sauce is light. Paired with rice with distinct, fluffy grains, the unaju at Kawashin makes for a satisfying meal that does not feel too heavy.
Choose unaju for a more substantial eel meal, or unadon for a lighter lunch. Menu information lists unaju in five sizes—Matsu at 2,750 yen, Take at 3,300 yen, Ume at 3,850 yen, Jo at 4,400 yen and Tokujo at 4,950 yen—and unadon at 2,200 yen. Prices and availability can change, so check when you visit. One diner who ordered unadon for lunch remembered how well the rice and sauce went together, along with the aroma of sansho pepper. It may suit a day when you want less than a full serving of unaju.
Some diners have also enjoyed eel belly meat and liver simmered in a sweet-and-savoury sauce, paired with beer. These small dishes offer another way to spend a relaxed evening, alongside or instead of making unaju the centrepiece of the meal. Dine in for lunch or dinner, or order takeaway; reservations are also available. There have been reports of long waits after ordering, so allow plenty of time or consider booking.
